Janis Miller
Choir Director
We are thrilled to announce that we have hired Janis Miller as our Choir Director. Janis (no stranger to many in our church family) is a native Californian who grew up in Bakersfield, CA and attended the University of California where she majored in English Literature and minored in History. She married her childhood sweetheart, Max, and together, they traveled the country while Max served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. She has two sons, Patrick and Ryan and five grandchildren. While stationed in Houston, TX, Janis was called to direct her first choir of 22 five year olds; she has been directing children, youth and adult choirs ever since, using her love of the Lord and music to help with the worship experience in ten different church communities. Upon retiring from the Coast Guard, the Millers settled in Oxford, MS in 1998 when Max filled the position of Scholarship Manager for the University of Mississippi. Janis served as adult choir director and children’s choir director for College Hill Presbyterian Church from 2006 until 2013.
Upon the death of her husband and following her family when they moved, Janis spent the last three years in Madison, MS where she attended First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, and sang in the adult choir. She has just returned to Oxford and has rejoined the College Hill family. Janis enjoys reading, painting, and creative writing. She recently published her first book, Joy Comes with the Mourning, and has started writing the second in her series of dealing with loss and grief. She is a great babysitter, loves cats and hates broccoli.
